Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Might Finish... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the writers are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why mess with the classics?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
