The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and another details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
