The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
