Shock as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in Johannesburg.
A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old presenter was confronted by three suspects, with one opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.
The reason behind the shooting remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities revealed that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a premises in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the building overseeing the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, it was reported.
"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement stated.
CCTV footage showed a individual with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but collapsed a short distance away.
Officials noted that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the attack.
Key evidence, like bullet casings, were recovered from the scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Police have appealed members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and police have been tracking them to determine their whereabouts," added an official.
Family and Public Reaction
His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.
"Words fail me. I am shattered," were her words.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were ready to tackle. This is a devastating blow."
She appealed to the public to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a popular local broadcasting platform.
Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was engaged in various commercial activities, including protective services, supplying VIP protection services and managing safety for prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in real estate operations and assisted with tenant removals.

His murder has caused national trauma and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the government and political parties.
A senior figure said he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.

A public representative commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a tragedy for all South Africans".
A industry leader expressed that "DJ Warras was far beyond a TV personality. He was a gifted communicator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a warm soul who brought joy and energy to every performance. His artistic passion left an indefinable mark."
In a communication, the network he worked for said Stock was known for his charisma, warmth and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will live on".
