“That was unfortunate. It was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the signal was entirely unintentional, happening amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved rapidly.”
League Precedent for Proprietor Fines
This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been fined for misconduct. Recent examples include:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
