This January transfer window is always a period of significant speculation and potential big-money transfers. Numerous high-profile players are being connected to moves away from their current clubs. We examine some of the top names who might be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to reach the AFCON, this has kept the forward available, indications are a major transfer is imminent. Brennan Johnson

This Wales forward has found starting opportunities hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Despite finishing as the side's top scorer the previous campaign, he has begun just a handful of league matches. It is understood the North London outfit is open to a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an interest.

Tottenham value the Welsh international at around forty million pounds.

R. Neves

This Portuguese playmaker could be poised for a comeback to the Premier League after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now only 28, and with his agreement expiring in the summer, he represents a potential opportunity. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spain that he is willing to accept a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran German goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barça following the manager Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a January departure looks highly likely. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a possible destination, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This prolific English centre-forward has continued finding the net frequently in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League might enhance his fading chances of being in the national squad. With his existing contract nearing its end, a host of English clubs – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but face a battle to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

The much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ first team. This 19-year-old is heavily tipped to make a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at around £22 million.
