Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry mourns the loss to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
